They say “less is more” – and when it comes to makeup for the Summer, this can certainly hold true. Ditch the heavy foundation and thick setting powder for these 5 essentials to keep you glowing through ’till September.
Too Faced Born This Way Foundation, $45CAD
Get rid of the heavy, cakey foundation for the upcoming hot weather (if it ever gets here!). This foundation goes on like silk, is lightweight, but still provides great coverage. It contains coconut water, so it will keep your skin soft and dewy yet refreshed for those hot Summer nights.
Kat Von D Lock-It Makeup Setting Mist, $33CAD
Kat Von D has made her mark on the cosmetics industry with some serious game-changing products. Her products use quality ingredients and don’t cost an arm and a leg like many of her competitors. This makeup setting spray is perfect for Summer as it is cooling and has a subtle cucumber scent. It boosts your makeup with its 24-hour staying power. I can’t say I keep mine on for that long, but if you do, let me know how this works!
Tarte Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara, $27CAD
You guys, this stuff is my jam. I honestly can’t live without this mascara. I have tried many, many, many others and keep coming back to this one. It never clumps, never flakes and never leaks leaving you looking like a drowned raccoon. It builds nicely for long, thick lashes. I usually do three coats, letting each one dry before applying the next. Honestly, if there is one new cosmetic you buy this Summer, make this the one.
St Tropez Self-Tan Luxe Facial Oil, $45CAD
Give yourself a natural looking glow to dive into Summer without hitting the tanning bed (please don’t!). Do not be scared away from this self-tanner because it is is oil – it is not greasy, non pore-clogging and can be worn under makeup. What is nice about it is that it has a lovely natural scent instead of that awful tell-tale self-tanner smell. Also, friends – don’t forget your SPF daily on your face…sorry if I sound like your Mom.
Pretty Vulgar Poisonous Pout Plumping Lip Gloss, $26.50CAD
Pretty Vulgar is fairly new to the scene but is producing some great products. This lip gloss glides on so smoothly and leaves a high shine while plumping up your lips with its natural peptides. Here’s the thing: I don’t find any of the plumping lip products out there really plump your lips (maybe it’s just me), but I love this gloss – plumping or not. It’s not sticky, won’t disappear after sipping on a drink and smells like fresh citrus! Comes in 6 colors – my favorite for the Summer is the Nude Pink.
All of these items are cruelty-free and can be found at Sephora.
